Voděrady Beachwood
Near Zvánovice there is a large National Nature Reserve Voděrady Beechwood, where you can walk in a nature untouched by man. This place is truly unique for its beauty, it enchants you at any time of year by grown trees, huge boulders, mossy meadows, crystal clear streams and magical fountains. In autumn, when the mighty oaks glow golden, orange and deep yellow colour, the beauty of the Voděrady Beechwood is absolutely mystical. If you have the opportunity, do not miss this season there.
Nature lovers will find there mainly acid beech wood mixed with summer oak, aspen, basswood and birch. From herbs, you can find there for example Luzula luzuloides, Galium odoratum, Deschampsia flexuosa, Convallaria bifolia, Oxalis acetosella and Anemone nemorosa. Besides the usual forest animals, a big number of birds can be found there, f. e. black woodpecker, goshawk and black stork. From small fauna, there are endemic species of sedgefly, northern species of proturans, mites and colembolans.
In the Voděrady Beechwood, you can find marked hiking trails which will lead you through the most amazing places of this magical area. If you wish to make your experience even more unique, you can order any of the outdoor treatments of the Forest Spa such as breathing exercises or Nordic Walking with the elements of yoga.
Cycling trails in the region are well marked and they are one of the best and most famous trails around Prague. This place is ideal for mushroom picking, swimming in local ponds and in winter for cross country skiing.
Among others, there are also the former Kamenka Quarry, from which one of the foundation stones of the National Theatre comes from, and important historical and archaeological monument called The Mill Stones and The Devil´s Stone.
In this nature reserve, which covers an area of 658 ha, one of the most beautiful forests in the Prague neighbourhood can be found. Many trails and also educational trails lead through this wonderful place . Near there are several ranches and a complex of seven romantic ponds which stretches from Jevany to Louňovice. Local nature enchants many Czech celebrities who have their summer houses there.
In the winter the snow holds for a long time because of the altitude of about 500 m and so the Voděrady Beechwood are a perfect place for cross country skiing. You can go skiing there even when in Prague there is no snow left.
